Privacy Policy
How the LABKickstart Portal handles your information.
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Who this covers
This policy covers the LABKickstart Portal at portal.labkickst.art (the "Portal"), operated by LABKickstart, Inc. It explains what we collect from teachers who sign in, what we store on their behalf, and how we handle it. It does not cover the separate LABKickstart storefront or the student experiment software.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google so we can create and identify your account. We do not receive your Google password.
- What you create. The classes, rosters, and sessions you set up. Rosters contain the student names and the class numbers you enter.
- Lab data. When your students run experiments during a live session, the readings they collect, and, if you enable records, the recorded runs that land in your gradebook, attributed to a student on your roster.
- Basic technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address and request times) that our hosting providers keep to run and secure the service.
How we use Google user data
We use the name and email address we receive from Google only to create your account, sign you in, and show you as the owner of your classes. We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not sell it. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How we use the rest
We use the classes, rosters, and lab data you create only to provide the Portal to you: to run live sessions, resolve which student is at which bench, and, when enabled, to store and show the records in your gradebook. We do not sell any of it, and we do not use student data for advertising.
Student data, and a privacy choice built into the design
Student names live in two places only: our database, and your own browser when the Portal resolves who is at each bench. Our live streaming infrastructure never receives a student name; it only ever carries a meaningless class number, which your browser turns back into a name. We built it this way on purpose so that fewer systems ever touch a student name.
You are responsible for having the authority, under your school or district policies and applicable law, to enter the student information you put into the Portal. We act as a service provider processing that information on your and your school's behalf.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or your students' data. We share it only with the service providers that run the Portal for us, under their own security and privacy terms: our database and hosting providers (which store the accounts, rosters, and records) and our live-session relay (which, as noted above, never receives student names). We may disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and the classes, rosters, and records you create for as long as your account is active, so your gradebook is there when you come back. You can ask us to delete your account and its data (see below). Standard server logs are kept by our providers on their own retention schedules.
Security
We use reputable hosting and database providers, sign-in through Google rather than passwords we store, and design the live pipeline so student names are not sent to our streaming infrastructure. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to protect the information you entrust to us.
Your choices
You can edit or delete your classes, rosters, and records in the Portal at any time. You can ask us to delete your account and everything associated with it by emailing us at hello@labkickst.art. If you signed in with Google, you can also review or revoke the Portal's access from your Google Account settings.
Children and students
The Portal is a tool for teachers and schools, not a service that students sign up for directly. Any student information in the Portal is entered by a teacher for their class. If you are a parent or a school and believe a student's information is in the Portal and should be removed, contact us at hello@labkickst.art and we will work with you and the school to address it.
Changes
We may update this policy as the Portal changes. We will update the date at the top when we do, and significant changes will be reflected here.
